Florence Maud Broadhurst (28 July 1899 – 15 October 1977) was an Australian designer and businesswoman whose 1977 murder remains a mystery. Source: Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florence_broadhurst
An intriguing examination of the life of one of Australia's great printmakers and social tricksters. The story of her remote upbringing, her background in theatre and her life as a designer and business woman unfold compellingly. Florences' evolution, and careful cultivation of identities, as she develops the skills to support them, reveal a shrewd intellect and a powerful business woman. I am sure that many of the people who read this book will be inspired by her design work as well as her sensibility and abilities as a master of reinvention.
The book design and reproductions of her studios (Florence Broadhurst Wallpapers Pty Ltd) designs are first rate. If the striking block printed design is aesthetically appealing then this book is required content on the printmakers bookshelf, if not for the well researched and compelling biography then for the reproductions of Florences' designs.
