A slightly odd but inspired journey through the eyes of one of the last British trade engravers. John Farleigh takes the reader through the craft and trade of engraving on wood whilst weaving his life story through discussions on mechanical and technical issues relating to illustration, printing and hand engraving.
His most famous works for the controversial "Adventures of the Black Girl in Her Search for God..." by George Bernard Shaw is discussed at length.
The book is rather esoteric in places which adds to its charm. It offers some worthwhile insights into contempoary printmaking and provides ample inspiration while it elucidates on many issues relating to printmaking and the fine arts.
